The correct order in your evening routine

İbrahim Emin Luleci ·

Evening is the time when your skin sheds the burden of the day and turns to repair itself. That is why the goal of an evening routine is not to use a multitude of products, but to apply the right products in the right order.

The basic rule: thinnest to thickest

Products are generally applied from the most watery texture to the richest. Lightweight textures reach the skin first. Rich creams are applied last, forming a top layer that helps the skincare underneath stay in place.

Step-by-step evening routine

  1. Cleanse: Gently remove the dirt, sebum, and sunscreen that have accumulated throughout the day with a sulfate-free gel. Use lukewarm water; it is enough to cleanse without tightening the skin.
  2. Prepare: Rebalance your skin with a toner pad. This step helps your skin better receive the products that follow.
  3. Strengthen: Apply the serum to skin that is still slightly damp and wait for it to absorb.
  4. Revitalize: Apply eye cream with your ring finger, gently tapping it on. The skin around the eyes is thinner, so there is no need to rub.
  5. Nourish: Finish the routine with a cream. The cream supports the barrier throughout the night by locking in moisture.

Common mistakes

  • Not waiting between layers: Allow each product a few minutes to settle.
  • Trying too many powerful actives in the same evening: Add a new product to your routine on its own and observe your skin for a few weeks.
  • Skipping cream: The final layer is important for the barrier, especially for skin that feels dry and sensitive.

Sunscreen is the final step of the morning routine; it is not part of the evening routine.

In short

An evening routine is a ritual that takes a few minutes. Applying each step without rushing is a time you set aside for yourself as much as for your skin.
